1 Samuel 16
In this chapter God sent Samuel to anoint David king. Only Samuel didn't know who he was to anoint. When he got there he thought us might be Jesse's big tall handsome son. And it was not. One after the other Jesse presented his sons to Samuel & it was none of them. Samuel asked if these were all of them. He knew God does not make mistakes & would not send him there in vain. So they sent for David. He came in from the fields I imagine Dusty dirty & not smelling so well...he had been tending the sheep. The scripture say he was ruddy which is of a healthy reddish complexion. I imagine that even though he was dirty he had the glow of the Lord on him & ruddy because he was always out in the sun. I imagine that would have been the most handsome sun kissed look. Samuel didn't think this was still him. All he saw was the dirt & grime. But God! David was anointed king dirt & all.
I think we miss put on people's gifts because we don't see them. Because they don't look or act like what WE think is right or proper.
In my own life a man I'd loved for many years married someone else. Though he loved me. I was not the acceptable pick of his family. I have been looked over for many things in life. Lots of opportunities. I've learned though that all that rejection was simply building blocks for today. And God will & can use that thing that man sees as dirty & unacceptable to His glory. While man sees your flaws & your past God sees & knows your heart. He knows your yesterday today & tomorrow. After all He created them. He knows your commitment to Him. Your desire for Him to serve Him to be in His will. And He will use you to His glory.
God is good and wonderful and amazing kind.
